As a shop owner and administrator of a Magento store, there are numerous tasks and processes to supervise. In order to make sure the Solr search enginge works realiably without any further effort, we integrated two new features in this release 1.2.4 of IntegerNet_Solr that automatically generate additional value.

Connection Check from Magento to Solr

This feature executes an automatic check of the connection between Magento and Solr every five minutes. Without any manual work the status of the external server’s availability used for Solr is always monitored, since Solr servers just like any servers can experience down times.

Configure the automatic Connection Check to exactly fit your needs.

Automatic Email Notifications

The entered email recipients are informed at two points in time: When the connection between Magento and Solr fails, the first notification is sent. To let you know when all is well and there is no need for action, you also receive a notification via email as soon as the next successful connection check is completed.

In order to reduce the number of sent emails, the module comes with an option to only send notifications if a minimum number of failed connection checks occured.

Fallback to Magento’s Standard Search

If a Solr core does not function and thus Solr search is not possible, visitors of your Magento website are still able to search for the desired products. In this case an automatic fallback of our extension IntegerNet_Solr comes into play: instead of a solr search the standard Magento search function is used. As a result, your customers still receive helpful search results instead of an error page.

A Powerful Team: Fallback and Connection Check

These features of the Magento module IntegerNet_Solr provide everything you need to rely on your online store’s search function without any doubt: the automatic connection check keeps an eye on the Solr servers and notifies if a Solr core does not react.
Even if this should happen, the fallback to Magento’s standard search arranges for enough time to properly fix the mishap. Website visitors will always be able to search the online store.
