Since 17th of November 2015, Magento 2 is generally available and already eCommerce media try to predict whether the new version will beat its predecessor’s success. An important factor in this matter is the extendability via external modules. The platform as such is designed for it, now all we need are updates to vital interfaces and third party extensions. Otherwise, anyone working with Magento 2 has to develop all extensions on their own. At least for complex modules, such as payment interfaces and shipping solutions, many merchants will shy at the costs and wait for third party extensions instead.

Complex Extension for Magento 2

One of these complex extensions of Magento’s functionalities is an improvement of the search function. A connection to Solr as an alternative to Magento’s standard search requires an extensive knowledge of both Solr (or any other search technology such as ElasticSearch or Sphinx) and Magento in order to create a successful integration. To let any Magento 2 based online store profit from the benefits of an optimized product search, we already work on the development of our Solr extension IntegerNet_Solr for Magento 2.

IntegerNet_Solr Improves Magento 2’s Product Search

Providing extensive search suggestions, a fuzzy search and individually adjustable priorisation of products and attributes, IntegerNet_Solr greatly improves the customer experience of your product search. In a recently run performance test, we found that for a store with 100.000 products load times of search results pages dropped by up to 95%. IntegerNet_Solr can also calculate product lists for category pages, extremely reducing the page load time here as well.

The release of IntegerNet_Solr for Magento 2 is planed for the first quarter of 2016. If you plan an update to Magento 2, but wish to use IntegerNet_Solr in your existing online store based on Magento 1, we have got some good news for you:
For all customers of IntegerNet_Solr, the update to IntegerNet_Solr for Magento 2 is free.

We have already started with the implementation. Our aim is to extract a central core, independent of Magento, that is used by both modules. Therefore, all features of IntegerNet_Solr will be available in the Magento 2 extension, too.
